Am I having a cold or am I being pregnant after IVF?
One of MedVacation's IVF patients, shortly after her embryo transfer, contacted our fertility specialists with a question about what she could take for her cold and stuffy nose. In addition to cramps, back aches, cravings and aversions, the patient complained about cold-like symptoms. Do you have a runny nose or are you feeling a bit stuffed up after your embryo transfer? Well, you may be experiencing pregnancy symptoms. What you are going through is called IVF cold, pregnancy rhinitis, and it is quite common.
Incidentally, did you know that our all inclusive IVF packages start at $8,199 and include airfare for two and hotel stay?
Many pregnant IVF patients exhibit cold symptoms and experience coughing, sneezing and nasal congestion. In fact, pregnancy rhinitis is as common as morning sickness is. Pregnancy rhinitis typically occurs in the first trimester and can last for up to six weeks. IVF cold is believed to be caused by changing hormone levels during pregnancy. Similar symptoms have been documented in women taking birth control pills and those undergoing hormone replacement therapy. Nevertheless, doctors have not yet determined the exact causes of pregnancy rhinitis.
As far as treatment for IVF cold goes, unfortunately, there is not much you can do about your pregnancy rhinitis. IVF cold is not dangerous for your growing fetus. There are some medications you can take, which will elevate your symptoms. You may be able to take some oral decongestants and antihistamines. We advise you speak with your monitoring doctor before taking any type of medication during pregnancy.
If you are having an IVF cold, it means your IVF treatments worked. However, don't despair, if your IVF cycle wasn't successful. It often takes several cycles in order to become pregnant. Our fertility clinics offer fertility treatments of the highest quality and our all inclusive IVF cycles start at $8,199.
