Ovarian Cysts and Fertility

Can I have Successful IVF Treatments, If I Have Cysts?

Our fertility doctors received several questions in regards to your abilities to have successful IVF treatments while having cysts. This is not a simple question to answer. Nevertheless, here is what our reproductive endocrinologists recommend.

If you have persistent cysts, you should make an appointment with your local specialist and deal with those cysts prior to starting your IVF treatments. Often cysts require an operation to be removed. There are also situations when your cysts may have been induced by medication used for your ovulation stimulation. Just because you develop a cyst, it does not necessary mean you will have a bad outcome with your IVF cycle.

On Cycle Day 1 of your menstrual cycle, our doctors will perform a blood test to measure Estradial hormone level within the cyst. Estradial affects the outcome of egg growth within the follicle, if it is a hormonal cyst. If the blood test shows that the Estradial is below 50, than our fertility doctors will proceed with your IVF treatments. Even if the cyst continues to persist, it will not affect the outcome of your IVF cycle. However, if the cyst has a very high level of Estradial, our doctors will terminate your cycle. Moreover, if the cyst does not dissolve on its own, it may need to be surgically removed.

Incidentally, our all inclusive IVF treatments packages start at $8,199 and include airfare for two and hotel stay.
