IVF Protocol Using Donor Egg

Donor Egg IVF Protocol Developed for a Patient over 40

Although every IVF patient’s protocol is slightly different and infertility treatments are adjusted based a couple's individual situation, here is what to expect during a typical Egg Donor IVF treatment cycle broken down by day. Furthermore, this protocol was developed by our overseas IVF doctors for an IVF patient over 40 years of age.

Cycle Day 1: 10 units of Lupron to be injected subcutaneously. Start taking ESTRACE 2MG twice a day.
Cycle Day 2 Through Cycle Day 8: Continue taking ESTRACE 2MG twice a day and with your Lupron regimen.
Cycle Day 9: A vaginal ultrasound is needed in order to measure the endometrial lining. In addition, ESTRACE 2MG is increased to three times a day. Continue with 10 units of Lupron.
Cycle Day 10: YOU SHOULD BE FLYING TO OUR OVERSEAS IVF CLINIC BY THIS DATE - Medications stay the same.
Cycle Day 11: Last dose of Lupron. ESTRACE dose stays the same. Start taking CRINONE GEL in the AM and UTROGESTAN PROGESTERONE 2 suppositories in the evening at bedtime.
Cycle Day 12: Oocyte Retrieval - DONOR EGGS ARE BEING RETRIEVED ON THIS DAY AND YOUR SPOUSE’S SPERM IS REQUIRED.
Cycle Day 14: EMBRYO TRANSFER – Our fertility clinics typically do transfers on the 3rd day. Based on the recommendation of the embryologist, your fertility doctor may choose to do embryo transfer on the 5th day.
Cycle Day 18: It is safe to travel back home.
Cycle Day 22: BLOOD TESTS - PROGESTERONE AND ESTRADIAL must be tested to see if medications need to be adjusted.
Cycle Day 25: REPEAT BLOOD TESTS - Repeat PROGESTERONE AND ESTRADIAL. In addition, take pregnancy test BETA HCG.

*** It may also be helpful to understand the IVF cycle as part of natural conception process aided by fertility specialists.

Please note that in some cases egg donors may naturally experience slower follicular growth. Because donor's ovaries respond to the medications slower, our doctors will extend the length of your treatments. There will be no additional charge for donor medication. However, this means that instead of 7 days, you may be required to stay abroad longer.

IVF_for_older_women_over_40You may return home 2-3 days after the embryo transfer. Our work does not end here though. Before you leave our clinic, you will be instructed to purchase injectables, estrogen tablets and suppository medicine to support the first 12 weeks of your pregnancy. Post-transfer medications from our clinics’ pharmacies cost half as much as they do in the U.S. Upon your return to your home town, you will schedule a number of appointments with either a perinatologist or an Ob doctor. Our fertility doctors will continue monitoring you and work very closely with your local doctor during these 12 weeks. They are also available for a free consultation any time after that.
